McPolin Barn
The barn was built by the McPolin family, Irish immigrants who operated one of the area's most successful farms during Park City's transition from a mining town to an agricultural community. The structure served as the center of a thriving dairy operation and became a symbol of Summit County's ranching heritage.
In 1990, residents of Park City voted to preserve the farm and surrounding open space from development. The property was later protected through conservation efforts and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, the barn stands as a beloved community landmark and one of the most photographed structures in Utah.

The Sleeping Indian is the nickname given to Sheep Mountain. Viewed from the east, the mountain's long ridge rises southward from the Gros Ventre River and resembles a Native American lying on their back. Farther south, a series of limestone cliffs forms what appear to be the figure's crossed arms.

Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel is one of the most remarkable engineering projects in the American Southwest and remains a historic gateway through Zion National Park. Construction on the tunnel began in 1927 and was completed in 1930, helping connect Zion with eastern Utah and the communities near Mount Carmel Junction. At 1.1 miles long, the tunnel was the longest of its kind in the United States when it opened. Workers carved it directly through massive Navajo sandstone cliffs using drills, dynamite, and hand labor. Large windows were cut into the rock walls during construction to provide light, ventilation, and access points. These windows now offer dramatic glimpses of Zion Canyon and have become one of the tunnel's most recognizable features.

Kolob Terrace Road is one of the quieter and most scenic drives in southern Utah, stretching northwest from the town of Virgin into the higher elevations of Zion National Park's backcountry. The road climbs from warm desert terrain into cooler forests of pine and aspen, passing dramatic red cliffs, lava rock formations, open meadows, and sweeping canyon views along the way. Unlike the main Zion Canyon area, Kolob Terrace often feels peaceful and remote, offering a slower and more solitary experience with the landscape.

Near Swan Valley, Idaho, the South Fork of the Snake River is not fully braided but does show some braided characteristics. Just below Palisades Dam it flows as a single, controlled channel, then gradually spreads into a wider floodplain with side channels, gravel bars, and islands. Because the river is regulated and its banks are more stable and vegetated, these channels tend to be more consistent and defined, making the river better described as a multi-channel or anabranching system.

The Sinclair Gas Station in Elberta, Utah is a historic roadside landmark along U.S. Highway 6 that dates back to 1917. Today, it is no longer active but stands as one of Utah's oldest surviving gas stations, known for its weathered wood structure and vintage character.

The sandstone began as sandy mud deposited on a tidal flat and later hardened over time. On October 14, 2022, I took a drive toward the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon and came across this remarkable stand of aspen trees near the canyon's highest point. It's uncommon to see aspens displaying both vibrant yellow and deep orange together, making the scene especially memorable. Rising above the Wasatch Range, the ridgeline forms the shape of a woman lying on her backâhead, arms, and flowing dressâoften called the "Sleeping Squaw." According to legend from the Ute people, the mountain represents a princess who sacrificed herself for love and peace. In the story, Princess Timpanogos fell deeply in love with a warrior from a rival tribe. Their relationship brought tension between the two peoples, and conflict threatened to erupt. To restore harmony and end the fighting, the princess climbed high into the mountains and gave her life. The Great Spirit honored her sacrifice by turning her into the mountain itself, where she would watch over and protect the valley forever.
