Wood carving artwork for interior of rustic homes.

Pioneer Scene

Timberline Lodge — Mount Hood, Oregon

Inside historic Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood, Oregon, a remarkable wood relief carving titled Pioneer Scene, depicts the journey of early pioneers along the Oregon Trail. Created between 1936 and 1937 by Melvin Keegan and Valentine Weise, the three-panel carving was inspired by stories passed down from Keegan’s great-grandmother. The artwork portrays pioneers, oxen, and covered wagons traveling through the rugged landscape of the American West. Located along the stairway near the lodge’s front entrance, the carving was completed as part of the Depression-era federal arts programs that helped bring Timberline Lodge to life. Nearly 90 years later, it remains a beautiful example of traditional woodworking and a tribute to Oregon’s pioneer history.

It arrives ready to hang.

Using a dye-sublimation process, the image is infused directly into a specially coated aluminum panel rather than printed on top of the surface. Choose between a glossy or semi-gloss finish.
